Our Vision for the Future. Many were the suggestions that came from the local community when the Quarry Park was first launched. Many of these suggestions have been implemented, but now it is exciting to plan for more development. An area for an art workshop and pottery kilns - a place for artists, potters, writers, spinners and weavers, and sculptors to work together and exchange ideas is on the agenda. On the middle terrace (not yet cleared) we plan to build basic cabins and a cookhouse to be used for educational purposes, hiring out the complex for weekends or ten days or so at a time. This would assist us with some income. These cabins will be available for artists, bush walkers, abseiling tuition, cultural education or whatever. The native bush on both the east and west sides of quarry face should be under our management by then, allowing us full use of the 32 hectares. The bush area would not only open up walking tracks, but include separate pony and mountain bike trails as well. In time we plan to have a high class restaurant on the upper heights, overlooking magnificent views of the Bay of Plenty. The Sanctuary (or meditation area) has been started and will provide a quiet retreat or a place of worship. One of our most important visions is an amphitheatre on Roman/Greek lines, not only as an art statement, but also for use for poets, singers, plays, instrumentalists, etc. This has been started in a small way as a natural grassed amphitheatre and has already been used for our first open air concert. As funds become available and demand dictates, we hope to eventually realise the full potential of a classical theatre. These plans are bound to change with new ideas and new personnel becoming interested in the quarry development over the years. We are always happy to listen to suggestions, although it may not be possible to implement them always. Our vision for the future is a world class park - |
